Butyl acetate is a colorless transparent liquid with pleasant fruity smell, it is an excellent organic solvent ethyl cellulose, cellulose acetate butyrate, polystyrene, methacrylic acid resin, chlorinated oak and a variety of natural gums have good solubility.
Properties
Physical properties: colorless transparent liquid with pleasant fruity odor. Lower homologue is insoluble in water; miscible with alcohol, ether, ketone and other organic solvents. Flammable. Acute toxicity is small, but it is a strong irritant to eyes and nose, and will cause anesthesia in high concentration. Relative density 0.8825, melting point - 73.5℃, boiling point 126.11℃.
Chemical properties: with the typical properties of esters, hydrolysis reaction catalyzed by acid or alkali to produce acetic acid and butanol. Under certain conditions, it can also undergo alcoholysis, ammonolysis and other reactions, and can form complexes with a variety of metal salts.
Uses
Coating and printing ink industry: It is an excellent organic solvent, which can dissolve many kinds of resins, such as acrylic resin, alkyd resin, epoxy resin, etc. It is widely used in the manufacture of coatings and printing ink, which can improve the fluidity, drying and gloss of coatings, and make the printing ink have good transferability and adhesion.
