Butyl acrylate, is an organic compound, chemical formula for C7H12O2, colorless transparent liquid, insoluble in water, miscible in ethanol, ether.
Properties
Physical Properties: colorless transparent liquid with special odor. Relative density 0.898, melting point - 64.6℃, boiling point 145.7℃. Insoluble in water, miscible in ethanol, ether.
Chemical properties: the molecule contains carbon-carbon double bond and ester group, with the typical properties of olefin and ester. Carbon-carbon double bond makes it can occur addition reaction, polymerization reaction, etc.; ester group can occur hydrolysis, alcoholysis and other reactions. Under the action of light, heat or initiator, butyl acrylate can be easily polymerized to produce polybutyl acrylate.
Usage
Coating industry: It is an important raw material for the manufacture of coatings and can be copolymerized with other monomers to form various coating resins with excellent performance. Acrylate coating synthesized with butyl acrylate as monomer has good weather resistance, corrosion resistance and decorative properties, and is widely used in construction, automobile, furniture and other fields of coating.
