Methyl acetoacetate, with molecular formula C5H8O3 and molecular weight 116, is a colorless liquid with peculiar odor, easily soluble in water. It is mainly used as intermediate of pharmaceutical industry, pesticide and herbicide, and widely used in organic synthesis of pesticide, medicine, dyestuff, polymer stabilizer and so on.
Uses and Applications:
It is an important intermediate for synthesizing many drugs.
Pharmaceutical industry: it is an important intermediate for the synthesis of a variety of drugs, and can be used for the synthesis of vitamin B1, p-hydroxyglycine Dunn's salt (an important intermediate of cephalosporin antibiotics), 6 - methyluracil (used in the synthesis of vasodilator tincture of Pansy), valproic acid (antiepileptic drug intermediates), and the raw material for calcium antagonists, 3 - aminocrotonic acid methyl ester.
Pesticide industry: it is the intermediate of fungicide oxacillin, dimethylpyrimidinol, ethylpyrimidinol, insecticide diazinphos, flytoxinphos, pyrimidinphos, herbicide imidazole ethyl nicotinic acid, rodenticide rodenticidal ether, rodenticides and so on.
Other fields: used as solvent of cellulose ether and component of mixed solvent of cellulose resin, also used in organic synthesis of dyestuffs, spices, polymer stabilizers, etc., and as solvent of synthesis of anti-malarial drugs, spices, paints, as well as used in the synthesis of a variety of important intermediates of fine chemicals, such as acetylacetone and 2,6 - dimethylpyridine.
