Dichloroethane is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H4Cl2. Molecular weight 98.97. It is a kind of halogenated hydrocarbon. Dichloroethane has two isomers, 1.1-dichloroethane and 1.2-dichloroethane, if not specified generally refers to 1.2-dichloroethane. Dichloroethane is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid, insoluble in water, it is a colorless liquid with a chloroform-like odor at room temperature, toxic, and potentially carcinogenic, mainly used as an intermediate in the production of vinyl chloride (PVC), often used as a solvent for synthesis, and also used as a solvent for waxes, fats, and rubbers as well as a cereal insecticide. Possible solvent substitutes include 1.3-dioxohexane and toluene.
